Sanjo Sueharu (三条季晴)

Sueharu SANJO (Novemeber 28, 1733 - January 11, 1782) was kugyo (court noble) in the middle of the Edo period. He served the Imperial Court for four generations, Emperor Sakuramachi (the 115th), Emperor Momozono (the 116th), Emperor Gosakuramachi (the 117th) and Emperor Gomomozono (the 118th), and he was promoted to Juichii Udaijin (Junior First Rank, miniter of the right). His father was Udaijin (minister of the right) Saneaki SANJO. His mother was a daughter of Gon Dainagon (provisional major counselor) Kinatsu SANJO. His wife was a daughter of the lord of the Hikone domain, Naosada II. He had sons, Udaijin (minister of the right) Saneoki SANJO and Sakone佐 Saneito MUSHANOKOJI, and had a daughter who was a wife of Udaijin Ietaka OINOMIKADO. His title was Goseishinin.

He was conferred a peerage in 1735. After that, he was quickly promoted as the head family of the Sanjo family, and he was promoted to Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank) in 1750, and was ranked with kugyo. After he took the posts of Chunagon, Dainagon and Toka no sechie Geben (a kugyo who supervised many matters outside Jomei Gate at Toka no sechie [Imperial Court Ceremony]), he was appointed as Shonii Naidaijin (Senior Second Rank, Inner Minister) in 1770. In 1772, he became Juichii. Although he was appointed as Udaijin in 1779, he shortly resigned the post. He died in 1781. He died at the age of 49.
